¡Buenas tardes a todos!
One week to go until Mexico gets the celebrations going and everyone pulls out their fireworks. We have seen some people setting off fireworks this week as a kind of prelude to the 15th. The sombreros, flags, decorations, dresses, and mustaches are all out in the stores ready to be sold. Why the moustaches? Well, I guess even here in Mexico there is the image of the Mexican revolutionary with his moustache, hat, and rifle.
Besides the decorations and festive preparations, things are fairly normal here. I mean to say a good normal. This week went well, and our investigators are progressing. The largest challenge has been helping them understand the importance of the Sabbath. I know that I have mentioned this challenge various times in the past, but in reality if an investigator doesn’t attend church, their progression is limited. I can gladly say that we have multiple investigators who are gaining testimonies of the Book of Mormon, but they haven’t attended yet. Even though it is sad to say, it is probably time to ‘drop’ some of our investigators who just aren’t attending.
On the up side, we ended the week well yesterday. After lunch, we went on splits with Elder Preciado and Elder Wagner to cover some appointments that we had in there area. Saturday, we received a call from a woman that told us she wanted to listen to us. She said that a member had given her our number and so we made an appointment with her for the next day. When we looked for her address, we found that she actually lives in the other side of the ward in the area of Elder Preciado and Elder Wagner. Going to the appointment, we found out that the woman who called us is actually one of our past investigators that moved! We also contacted another referral and contacted another sister who told us that she is looking for God. Overall, we ended up finding five new investigators.
To close this week, I would like to share a scripture and my testimony. When the Savior came to the Americas, he said “Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world” (3 Nephi 11:14). This scripture perfectly relates to the invitation that we extend as missionaries. Arise and come forth that ye may come to know our Savior and Redemer. I know that this is church is the true church. The gospel has indeed been restored to the earth today in preparation for His second coming.
