Here we are to August 11th, 2014 and another week has passed us by. Sorry that I didn’t say much about my week last Monday in my email. All is well and I am doing great, but my mind was just occupied last week with other things. Elder Castillo and I are doing well and we continue to work hard.
Starting out this week, we had our monthly Zone Meeting Tuesday in the Laureles chapel. My Zone Leaders are now Elder Sewell and Elder Holman. The Zone Meetings give us a chance to be updated on changes/news/announcements and the Zone Leaders then give us an over view of what we will be learning in our District Meetings during the month. Since we had transfers recently, we also introduced ourselves and got to know all of the missionaries who are now in the zone. Tuesday evening, we went to our chapel for or weekly meeting with the Ward Mission Leader and helped out a little bit with our ward’s choir. They are preparing for our ward conference the 24th of this month.
The rest of this week, we basically focused on teaching our investigators and finding new investigators. The last couple of weeks have been a little difficult because we haven’t had investigators in church. If they don’t attend church, they don’t progress towards their baptism. We have quite a few good investigators, but they are always busy on Sunday.
Sadly, we did lose an investigator this week. Wednesday, we went to visit a sister that we have been teaching. Her brother died a couple weeks back, and so we had been reviewing the Plan of Salvation with her. When we went Wednesday, the first thing that she told us was that she had changed religions. She told us that another religion was now teaching her and that they had convinced her. I honestly can say that we did all that we could with this sister, but for now she has told us that she is no longer interested in listening to us.
So, you might be thinking now that this week must have been a downer. Actually, these sad experiences have been few and far between. On the up side this week, we had the opportunity to see how the Spirit can relight the excitement of the gospel within a family, and we also had the opportunity to hear a recently baptized sister share an experience that she had years ago. While the challenges of missionary work are many, the rewards are great.
I know that this is the work of the Lord. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the kingdom of God on the Earth today. Each time that I share the First Vision, the Spirit confirms the truth of that sacred event. I know that the Book of Mormon is indeed Another Testament of Jesus Christ. What a blessing it is to have the words of ancient and modern prophets available to us so that we can learn about the plan that God has for us.
