Into July With Good News and Bad News

¡Buenas tardes a todos!

So here we are, finishing off June! Wow, another month gone and we are half way done with 2014! Things are going well here in San Felipe, but the weather has been a little odd. We have been receiving heavy rain every afternoon/night for the past week or two. Many people have told me that it is raining much more than usual. The rain hasn’t really affected us though, so all is good and I am nobody to complain.

This week comes with some ‘bad news’ for us here in the Mexico Mexico City East Mission; news that has struck the air out of a few elders and sisters. What might this tiding be? What has hit now? Well, President Anaya received the official notice/update from Salt Lake that the boundaries of the mission have been changed slightly. With this change, the Zocalo no longer pertains to the Mexico Mexico City East Mission. Gasps of surprise and shock could be heard as we received the news. So, what does this mean for us now? I guess there will be no more trips to the Zocalo.

Well, that’s the bad news, so here is the good news. Things are going well here in our area and we are working hard. With the World Cup going on, it has been a little hard at times to find someone not watching the games, but we have still been able to have lessons and teach our investigators with out much trouble (I heard that Mexico has been eliminated as of yesterday, by the way, so we will see if less people are watching now. It looks like the World Cup is probably just about as big here, or bigger than, the Super Bowl is in the U.S.). Not many investigators were in church yesterday, so we are going to be working to help them attend this week.

Also this week, we had a Zone Conference with President Anaya. President and the assistants talked about the importance of the Book of Mormon and how we can more effectively employ it in our proselyting efforts. The Book of Mormon plays a very important roll as the keystone of our testimonies and religion. We should appreciate it as such and recognize that it sets us apart from any other church.

Well, my time is up. I wish everyone a great week and I hope you know that I love all of you. This is the work of the Lord. His spirit is with us and testifies that these things are true. The Book of Mormon is crucial and profound proof that Joseph Smith is the prophet of the restoration and contains the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Of this I testify in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
